“The Ward” available on VOD & limited theatrical release

John Carpenter’s “The Ward” is available on VOD (video on demand) via Netflix for US residents. The horror film, starring Amber Heard and Mamie Gummer, will also be theatrically released in limited theaters – a complete list can be found here. Also, the film will be released on DVD and Blu Ray on August 08, 2011. Both can be pre-ordered via Amazon and other known online retailers.

The Ward Scores a U.S. Release Date

The long awaited release date for John Carpenter’s The Ward in the States has finally come. According to DreadCentral, the horror film is set to be released on VOD and in theatres on the same day, June 8,2011. On a sidenote, the UK DVD release for the film, which was originally slated for late May 2011, has been pulled to October!

Looks like John Carpenter’s “The Ward” is not going to make big waves overseas either. While announced for a limited theatrical release in the USA on April 15, the horror thriller is already released on DVD and Blu Ray in the United Kingdom on May 16, 2011. No further information on special features as of now unfortunately. Both the DVD and Blu Ray can be pre-ordered at Amazon.co.uk.

News courtesy Fearnet.com: ARC Entertainment in collaboration with Barry Gordon’s XLrator Media have partnered to acquire the U.S. distribution rights to John Carpenter’s The Ward. Read Scott Weinberg’s review for The Ward from TIFF 2010. Amber Heard, Mamie Gummer, Danielle Panabaker, Lyndsy Fonseca and Jared Harris star in the acclaimed director’s psychological thriller which is set in a 1960s mental institution that becomes terrorized by malevolent unseen forces. Doug Mankoff, Andrew Spaulding and Mike Marcus of Echo Lake Entertainment along with Peter Block of A Bigger Boat produced the film. International sales were handled by Glen Basner’s FilmNation Entertainment. “We are proud to be a part of John Carpenter’s long-awaited return to the big screen,” said XLrator Media’s Barry Gordon in a statement. “John is one of the most renowned filmmakers in the world and John Carpenter’s The Ward is a great addition to an already legendary career.”
