Jodie Markell’s “The Loss of a Teardrop Diamon” has been released on R1 DVD and Blu-ray by Screen Media on September 07, 2010, it can be ordered on Amazon, alongside all known DVD retailers.
Here’s a film that’s actually more interesting for its origins than what wound up on the screen. It’s based on a recently rediscovered play by Tennessee Williams. That it was never performed on stage may be a clue to its weaknesses in the pantheon of overbaked southern soap operas. Bryce Dallas Howard is a 1920s socialite in love with a boy (Chris Evans) from the wrong side of the tracks. The game cast includes Ann-Margret, Ellen Burstyn, Will Patton and Mamie Gummer (Meryl Streep’s daughter), but to little avail. Extras: widescreen, deleted scenes, featurettes
