“Off the Map” releases on DVD, August 23rd

It didn’t last long, but fans of ABC’s single-season show will be pleased to know that today Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment announced the August 23rd release of Off the Map – The Complete Series on DVD. The program will be presented in anamorphic widescreen video, English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, and with French and Spanish subtitles. Beyond that, extras include Deleted Scenes, Outtakes, a “Jungle Medicine” Featurette, and “On Set at Off The Map”. Due to the short-lived nature of the show, no Blu-ray Disc version has been mentioned. Pre-order “Off the Map – The Complete Series” on Amazon. Many thanks to Nat for the heads-up!

“The Ward” available on VOD & limited theatrical release

John Carpenter’s “The Ward” is available on VOD (video on demand) via Netflix for US residents. The horror film, starring Amber Heard and Mamie Gummer, will also be theatrically released in limited theaters – a complete list can be found here. Also, the film will be released on DVD and Blu Ray on August 08, 2011. Both can be pre-ordered via Amazon and other known online retailers.

Classic Stage Company Extends School for Lies Through May 29

Classic Stage Company has announced a one week extension of its critically acclaimed production of The School for Lies, which will now close on Sunday, May 29. Walter Bobbie has directed the production. David Ives’ new comedy is adapted from the Molière classic The Misanthrope. The cast features Alison Fraser, Mamie Gummer, Jenn Gambatese and Hamish Linklater, as well as Steven Boyer, Frank Harts, Rick Holmes, Hoon Lee and Matthew Maher.

“Off the Map” will not return for second season

With the announcement of ABC’s 2012 line-up, the network has canceled most of its first-season series, including “Off the Map”. So unfortunately there won’t be any more stories for Mamie’s Dr. Mina Minard and her colleagues. At least, there have been 13 episodes to enjoy and re-watch.
