It didn’t last long, but fans of ABC’s single-season show will be pleased to know that today Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment announced the August 23rd release of Off the Map – The Complete Series on DVD. The program will be presented in anamorphic widescreen video, English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, and with French and Spanish subtitles. Beyond that, extras include Deleted Scenes, Outtakes, a “Jungle Medicine” Featurette, and “On Set at Off The Map”. Due to the short-lived nature of the show, no Blu-ray Disc version has been mentioned. Pre-order “Off the Map – The Complete Series” on Amazon. Many thanks to Nat for the heads-up!

“Off the Map” will not return for second season

With the announcement of ABC’s 2012 line-up, the network has canceled most of its first-season series, including “Off the Map”. So unfortunately there won’t be any more stories for Mamie’s Dr. Mina Minard and her colleagues. At least, there have been 13 episodes to enjoy and re-watch.

Despite a cliffhanging season finale, Off the Map still seems unsure of its future with ABC. According to TV Squad’s most recent list, Off the Map is “on the bubble” for renewal for a second season. TV Series reports it seems the medical drama may get the ax, with ratings below No Ordinary Family, which is almost certain to get cut. Even though the tropical medical drama was produced by Shonda Rhimes – who produces the hit drama, Grey’s Anatomy, which is certain to be renewed – viewers seemed less impressed and tuned in less to Off the Map. But with ratings that started out less-than-stellar and only declined, it seems the unanswered questions asked by the show’s season finale will remain forever unanswered. (source: The Celebrity Cafe)
