But in her latest role, Gummer – whose mother is Meryl Streep – will draw on history to channel her inner aristocrat. As the first of several actors who will participate in the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s new artist-in-residence program, Gummer will star as Lady Dunmore in “Lady Dunmore Prepares for the Ball,” which will be presented Sunday at an open-air theater on the grounds of the Governor’s Palace. Gummer portrayed Sally Smith Adams, a daughter-in-law of Revolutionary War patriot and second U.S. president John Adams and wife Abigail, in the HBO miniseries adapted from John McCullough’s bestselling biography.
