Article courtesy the Daily Press: Mamie Gummer has been named the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s first artist-in-residence. Beginning May 1, Gummer will star as Lady Dunmore in a new Revolutionary Story scene titled “Lady Dunmore Prepares for the Ball.” Fully costumed in 18th-century attire and working from a script based on historical fact, Gummer will appear at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day in an open air theater on the grounds of the Governor’s Palace. Both of Gummer’s performances require a Colonial Williamsburg admission ticket or Good Neighbor Pass. Guests may make reservations by calling 229-2141, and can pick up their reserved ticket at any CW ticket sales location. The scene takes place on May 26, 1774, and centers on Lady Dunmore’s preparation for the official welcome ball held in her honor at the Capitol. Lady Dunmore was the wife of John Murray, the Fourth Earl of Dunmore. When Dunmore was appointed governor of Virginia in 1774, Lady Dunmore joined her husband in America. Gummer is the first of several actors who will participate in the new artist-in-residence program. The program is designed to provided artists who love history the opportunity to appear in the interactive “street theater” offered daily in CW’s Historic Area. Said Gummer,
I’m very excited to return to Williamsburg and perform in such a unique educational setting
