John Adams has topped this year’s Emmy Awards nomination list, with the historical drama that follows the life of one of America’s founding fathers getting 23 nominations. Sideways star Paul Giamatti was nominated for his lead role in the best actor in a miniseries or movie category, the best actress category is headed by Laura Linney. The winners will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on September 21.

The Flying Swan Acting Program

Marsha Mason, four-time Oscar nominee (“The Goodbye Girl”), is conducting a four-week residential program for young actors at Wesleyan University in Middletown through July 26. The Flying Swan Acting Program was established as a high school summer program for promising teens and young adults interested in comprehensive acting training. Guests for the program include actors Henry Goodman, Brian Cox, Michael Christofer, Mamie Gummer and TV director John Erman.
Roundabout’s “Liaisons” ends July 6

The new Roundabout Theatre Company production of Christopher Hampton’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses, the 1780s-set tale of love and cruelty going hand in hand, ends its limited engagement July 6 after 22 previews and 77 regular performances at the American Airlines Theatre. Katrina Lindsay won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Play for the Rufus Norris-directed staging, which opened May 1. The production was also nominated for Best Revival of a Play, Best Actor in a Play (Ben Daniels), Best Scenic Design of a Play (Scott Pask) and Best Lighting Design of a Play (Donald Holder).
